The union representing Northwest Airlines Corp. pilots sued the air carrier last week over perks programs it said were in violation of collective-bargaining rules.
The perks include gift cards for pilots with a "can do attitude," bonuses for union members who work the week between Christmas and New Year's and a "success-sharing" program that raises pay. In a complaint filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan, the union said that Eagan-based Northwest "unilaterally determined" how pilots should be rewarded. The union also complained about the move to create "employee involvement teams," where working conditions can be discussed without union representatives.

Unbelievable is right. It seems this union is pursuing the loss of ALL the pilots' jobs when they force NWA out of business. Gee, if I were a pilot, I sure wouldn't want NWA giving me perks or anything. Better get on that ASAP, union!
Unions are basically in the self-preservation business. They exist only to ensure their own survival.
